In a statement, Ailes said, “I am proud of our accomplishments and look forward to continuing to work with you as an adviser in your career.”[181][182] Rupert Murdoch was named chairman and acting CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network in Ailes’ absence.[183]

21st Century Fox released the following statement regarding Ailes’ resignation:

“Roger Ailes has made a remarkable contribution to our company and our country. Roger shared our vision of a great and independent television organization and executed it brilliantly over 20 great years.”[184][185]

In his resignation letter to Murdoch, Ailes said, “I am proud of our accomplishments and look forward to continuing to work with you as an adviser in your career.”[186]

Ailes was paid a $40 million settlement as part of his resignation from Fox News.[187] In September 2016, Gabriel Sherman reported in New York magazine that Murdoch’s sons James and Lachlan “were instrumental” in ousting Ailes.[188]
