It is the second-largest broadcasting and cable television company in the world by revenue and the largest pay-TV company, the largest cable Internet provider, and the third-largest home telephone service provider in the United States. NBC News is a leading source of global news and information and a division of NBCUniversal, which is a subsidiary of Comcast.

Acquisition of NBC

On January 18, 2011, Comcast Corporation (Comcast) announced its plans to acquire a majority stake in NBC Universal (NBCU) from General Electric Company (GE). Comcast would contribute about $6.5 billion in cash and assets to the joint venture and GE would contribute NBCU’s businesses, including its cable networks, broadcast television network, television stations, theme parks, and equity interests in third-party programming ventures. The transaction was valued at $30 billion.

The acquisition of NBCUniversal by Comcast Corporation was completed on January 28, 2011. The new company was called Comcast NBCUniversal. Comcast owned 51% of the new company and GE owned 49%. Brian L. Roberts is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Comcast Corporation and Steve Burke is the CEO of NBCUniversal.

The headquarters of Comcast NBCUniversal are located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) is an American broadcast television network owned by the NBCUniversal Television Group, a subsidiary of Comcast. The network is headquartered at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, with additional major offices near Los Angeles and in Chicago.
