Don Jr.’s Response

Don Jr. has responded to the latest news about his contact with a Russian lawyer. In a statement, he said “I did not collude with the Russian government to influence the 2016 election.” He also said that he is “pleased” that the lawyer has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Donald Trump Jr. has taken to Twitter to defend himself against charges that he lied to Congress about his 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer.

“I did nothing wrong,” he wrote in a series of tweets on Monday. “I provided complete and truthful testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee.”

Trump Jr. is under scrutiny for his testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2017, in which he said he was not aware of any plans by the Trump campaign to collude with Russia.

But emails released last week show that he was told in advance that the meeting was part of a Russian government effort to help his father’s campaign.

In his tweets on Monday, Trump Jr. said he had mistakenly omitted the email exchange from his testimony because “it had been such a long time” since he had seen it.

On Instagram, donjr shared a post with the caption “The Democrats are so desperate they’re attacking the President’s son again.” The post included a screenshot of an article about the Democratic National Committee suing the Trump campaign, WikiLeaks, and Russia.

Republican lawmakers have largely stayed quiet on Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 election campaign, with some saying they were not aware of the details and others praising the president’s eldest son for being transparent.

“I think Donald Trump Jr. is a patriot,” said Rep. Tom Cole of Oklahoma. “He loves his father, he’s loyal to his father and I think he was Transparency is always the best course.”

“I think from what I’ve seen of Don Jr., he’s a good man,” said Rep. Peter King of New York. “He’s a patriotic American.”

“Nobody that I know of had any prior knowledge of it,” said freshman Rep. Scott Taylor of Virginia, who called the meeting “inappropriate.”

The latest news on Donald Trump Jr. has left Democrats with mixed reactions, with some calling for his impeachment and others downplaying the significance of the revelation.

house Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement that the emails “confirm what we have long suspected: that Donald Trump Jr. was eager to receive damaging information about Hillary Clinton from the Russian government.”
“We now know that Donald Trump Jr. was not just willing, but enthusiastic about colluding with a hostile foreign power to swing an election,” Pelosi said. “The question is: what did President Trump know, and when did he know it?”

Pelosi’s statement was echoed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, who called the email exchange “treasonous” and said Trump Jr. should be impeached if he is found to have colluded with Russia.

“This is official confirmation that the Trump campaign was willing to accept help from a hostile foreign government,” Sanders said in a statement. “It is treasonous.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren also called for Trump Jr.’s impeachment, tweeting that “the Constitution does not permit a president to receive foreign assistance of any kind in our elections.”

“Donald Trump Jr.’s emails are further proof that senior members of the Trump team were eager and willing to collude with a hostile foreign government,” Warren tweeted. “Again and again we see people close to Donald Trump breaking the law – including those who have pled guilty or been indicted – while he refuses to denounce Russian interference or hold anyone accountable.”

However, not all Democrats are ready to call for Trump Jr.’s impeachment just yet. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement that while the emails are “deeply disturbing,” it is still too early to say whether they rise to the level of impeachable offenses.

“If these allegations are true, they would provide further proof of collusion between Donald Trump’s team and Russia during the 2016 campaign – which would bring us one step closer to figuring out if there were impeachable offenses committed,” Schumer said.

In conclusion, the latest Don Jr. news is that he is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on July 26th, 2017. This will be a closed door meeting, so the exact details of what will be discussed are not yet known. However, it is expected that he will be questioned about his meeting with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 presidential campaign.
